Making the Website Design Process Work
Everyone wants a good website design at a reasonable price. It’s the turnaround time that seems to give people the most trouble. The goal here is to help you understand the basics of what’s needed.
The advantage to custom web design is that it is a truly collaborative process. Seems obvious right? Well, it is, yet many people don’t understand just how important their input is in the design process.
We immediately provide our new clients with a web design worksheet upon signing up. It is full of questions about what you (the client) expect from your new site. We want to know what sites you like, who your competitors are, what colors you want, what layout ideas you have, etc. You can never be too detailed up front, yet it’s surprising how many people write the bare minimum while some do the unthinkable and skip answering questions all together.
Let’s face it, revisions are part of custom design but no one likes to spend more time than necessary. When we receive incomplete information, it’s difficult for us to know what you want and it can be frustrating if the process takes longer than expected.
You have heard the phrase before, “garbage in, garbage out”. Providing clear examples and detailed systematic feedback doesn’t take much time and will lead to a quality website in record time. And isn’t that what you really want?
Be excited to be in the driver’s seat of your project! When we ask for feedback and input, some clients are offended because they feel as if they are the ones designing the website. Some people expect the designer to take over a project knowing absolutely nothing about the clients’ preferences, desires, etc.
When you work with us, you can feel good knowing that you are in control of the process. As always, call or email us with your questions; we’re happy to help.
